Quote 1
They
saw male role models as more academically competent than did the
other boys; therefore, they can see themselves as more capable of
academic endeavors (Mancus 18).

Kids
who had male teachers saw that males could be academic which allowed
themselves to be more academic.
Male
role models in academic professions allow young boys to view
themselves as more capable of success in education.
Having
males as teachers allow boys to view education as a more masculine
trait and therefore allow themselves to see themselves as more
academically competent.
Quote 2
The
tensions and contradictory messages coming from all quarters, female
teacher colleagues, parents, administrators, system authorities, and
the wider society are experienced as limitations on their natural
inclinations to be warm, compassionate, and caring human beings
(Hansen 11).

Paraphrase
Views
of society conflict with male teacher’s natural instinct to be
compassionate people.
Society
pushes men away from being caring.
Society
pushes teachers who are teachers from being caring.
Views
of society push a male away from being caring teachers due to the
fear of being judges and labeled as a psychopath.
In
elementary school the majority of teachers are female. This, combined
with an increasing number of families raised by single mothers, has
caused an increase number of boys with very low self-esteem(Mancuss
5). Having males as teachers allow boys to view education as a more
masculine trait and therefore allow themselves to see themselves as
more academically competent (Mancus 18). Sadly, there is a push
against having male teachers. Views of society push a male away from
being caring teachers due to the fear of being judges and labeled as
a psychopath (Hanse 11). This has caused a vicious cycle that
continues to feeds itself.
